Matthew Walker is a pianist, vocalist and aspiring composer of videogames and other media. Having studied the piano from the age of seven, he was never officially taught. Throughout secondary school, he played in the hopes of becoming a performer but as his musical life progressed and evolved, he found that he enjoyed composing most of all.
The musician recently completed a three year music degree with aspirations of becoming a professional composer and is currently composing for student games. He counts among his influences Akihiro Matsumoto, Pink Floyd, John Williams, Ben Folds, Koji Kondo, Ennio Morricone and Nobuo Uematsu.
For the IWADON Tribute Album, the musician provided an orchestral take on the ending theme of Choujin Sentai Jetman. Using extended form throughout the piece, he created a rich orchestral arrangement intended to pay homage to the original.
"I wanted the piece to begin with a lot of melodic tension and space," the arranger explained. "I didn't want to overpower the piece from the word go so I allowed for the theme to develop very slowly, using a solo clarinet before the staccato basses drive the piece forward. The theme then returns with the clarinet, complete with additional colour and body."
