When the CD soundtrack album for Xbox Live Arcade shooter Omega Five was released, it included remixes by professional game composers from the sound studio Super Sweep. Yousuke Yasui, the composer of Mamoru Has Been Cursed, arranged the track "Glacial Fortress" for the album. In retrospect, the album represents a significant contribution to international recognition of Iwatsuki's music, a convincing demonstration that the compositions lend themselves to remixing.
Mattias Häggström Gerdt currently studies musicology at the University of Stockholm and is being taught by the renowned Swedish musician Mats Larsson Gothe. A long-time member of the game arrangement community OverClocked ReMix, he serves on the judges panel and arranges music as Another Soundscape. A professional game composer, his credits include arrangements on Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and original music for Artoon, The Perfect Match, Kaleidoscope and the forthcoming BlindEdge. He follows Yasui and Iwatsuki himself in arranging "Glacial Fortress" from Omega Five.
"The first time I came in contact with Iwatsuki's music was in Omega Five for Xbox Live Arcade," says Another Soundscape. "The music worked perfectly together with the beautiful shooting game. Iwatsuki's intricate melodies, sense of rhythm and harmony made me appreciate the game so much more. It's a wonderful combination of jazz fusion and electronic music, just as good on it's own as in the game. In just a few listens I was convinced this was some of the best video game music ever made."
"I played the game religiously, imported the soundtrack and tried to track down other music by Iwatsuki, impressed by his amazing catalogue. I even tried my hand at arranging a piece from Omega Five. However, it wasn't until Jeriaska approached me about a tribute album that I could focus my ideas to make something I felt would honor Hiroyuki Iwatsuki. My track is a personal "thank you" to a master of his craft, a truly creative man who created the soundtracks to many, many moments of joy."
